"Project Excel" is the Corporation's flagship project of the Mentoring program. This program focuses upon mentoring to African American males beginning in middle school and requires the men tee to enroll in the program with permission from his parents or guardian. Mantes enrolled in this program are eligible for a scholarship award from the Corporation's Village Legacy Education Program upon graduation from high school.

The charter for this high school was acquired in April 2008 by 100 Black Men Capitol Charter Initiative, an entity separate from this Corporation but managed by members who are also members of 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Baton approximately 400 students. The mission is to improve the students' education experience while providing a quality education. This Corporation provides support by seeking funding for some of the school's activities, paying some of the school expenses, and providing an administrative facility at no charge. The Corporation considers this program to be a major project.

This program was developed by the Corporation in an effort to assure a real, tangible hope for higher education in the lives of inner city youth who are enrolled in Project Excel. After completion of a three year commitment to the middle and high school programs, men tees are eligible for a Village Legacy Scholarship upon graduation from high school. During the year the Corporation awarded four college students scholarships of $1,000 each and seven college students scholarships of $500 each.
