DEATH IN CUSTODY LEGISLATION

Between 2012 and 2016 there were 25 deaths in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Not one of these deaths have been independently investigated and families have been impeded at every level of trying to get information regarding their family member’s death. The East Baton Rouge Parish Prison Reform Coalition seeks legislative changes that will allow deaths and major injuries to be fully investigated by a third party as well as changes in the Louisiana legislature regarding the release of autopsy reports to family members within a reasonable time frame.
